May 18, 2015

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (May 18, 2015) - The Carolina League announced Monday that Winston-Salem infielder Trey Michalczewski is the circuit's Player of the Week for May 11-17. This marks the first Player of the Week award that the Dash have claimed in 2015.

In seven games this past week, Michalczewski hit .400 (10-for-25) with two homers, five RBIs and six runs scored. Since the start of May, the 20-year-old paces Class A-Advanced and is tied for second in all of Minor League Baseball in RBIs with 20.

This surge has propelled the Jenks, Okla., native to the CL's overall RBI lead (28). He also stands tied for first in extra-base hits (17), tied for second in total bases (66) and tied for third in slugging percentage (.475).

Michalczewski becomes the second weekly honoree for Winston-Salem this season. James Dykstra claimed the first Pitcher of the Week award thanks to his no-hitter on April 15 at Potomac.

The eighth-best prospect in the White Sox system, according to MLB.com, Michalczewski has now won two Player of the Week awards in his Minor League career. The South Atlantic League honored Michalczewski in June of 2014 for a stellar week with Kannapolis.

Following Monday's scheduled off day, the Dash begin a seven-game road trip with the first of three at Wilmington on Tuesday night at 6:35. The club begins a week-long homestand at BB&T Ballpark on Wednesday, May 27.
