Garneau Homers Twice In Isotopes 8-3 Win

June 28, 2015

NEED TO KNOW: Catcher Dustin Garneau blasted a pair of home runs to pace the Albuquerque Isotopes (33-44) to an 8-3 victory against the Salt Lake Bees (31-46) Sunday afternoon at Smith's Ballpark in Salt Lake City, UT. Cristhian Adames also drove in a pair of runs with his 3-for-4 day.

THE TURNING POINT: The Bees posted a three-run bottom of the first to take an early 3-2 lead, and it seemed as though that may be all the offense needed to win the Sunday matinee. It wasn't until the seventh inning that either team could break through when Angelys Nina and Tim Smalling singled to leadoff the inning. Brock Bond sacrificed them into scoring position before Cristhian Adames tied the game with an RBI single. Tim Wheeler then drove in Smalling with a sacrifice fly to give Albuquerque the lead. Dustin Garneau mashed a two-run home run, his second of the game, as part of a four-run eighth inning for the Isotopes.

GOING, GOING, GARNEAU: Catcher Dustin Garneau mashed a pair of home runs Sunday afternoon, a solo blast in the second inning and a two-run bomb in the eighth. It was his team-leading ninth and 10th homers of the season, and it marks the second time he's hit two long balls in one game this year (April 13 vs. Reno). It is also the seventh multi-home run game by an Isotope this season. Over his last 10 games, Garneau is batting .385 (15-for-39) with nine runs scored, three doubles, five homers, 14 RBI and four walks.

ATTA BOY ADAMES: While Dustin Garneau provided the power of the afternoon, shortstop Cristhian Adames was just as impressive with his 3-for-4 day. He finished with a double and two RBI. Adames is finally heating back up since his ankle injury earlier this season, and during his last eight games, Adames is batting .412 (14-for-34) with five runs scored, two doubles, a homer, six RBI and two walks. He also has hits in eight of his last nine games and in 10 of his last 12.

ON DECK: The Isotopes and Bees will play their four-game series finale Monday evening at 7:05 p.m. Albuquerque will send left-handed pitcher John Lannan (3-2, 3.94 ERA) to the mound, while Salt Lake has yet to announce a starter.

IN THE HOLE: After their seven-game road trip the Isotopes will return to The Lab for a four-game series against the Reno Aces beginning Tuesday, June 30. During the homestand, Albuquerque will host a July 3 post-game fireworks show with live music accompaniment by the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program.
