Alfaro, Mazara go yard as Riders cruise 10-1

Thompson throws six strong earning his fourth win of season

FRISCO, TEXAS (May 26, 2015) - The Frisco RoughRiders started their six game homestand on a high note Tuesday night as they took down the Springfield Cardinals, 10-1. Jake Thompson had another strong outing as Jorge Alfaro and Nomar Mazara each hit a homerun in the bottom of the third inning.

The Riders got the offense started in the second inning when Trever Adams sent a one out single to right center setting up the RBI single by Drew Robinson putting the Riders on the board 1-0. The offense continued in the third inning as the Riders plated three more runs including a two run shot by Alfaro scoring Nick Williams and a solo homerun by Mazara to give the Riders a 4-0 lead.

Frisco continued their offensive success in the bottom of the fourth when Jake Skole and Preston Beck led off with back-to-back singles and Luis Mendez dropped a bunt single down the third base line loading the bases up. Williams got the RBI single to right scoring Skole before Joey Gallo hit a two-run single putting the Riders ahead 7-0. With the bases loaded again, Williams scored on a wild pitch and Adams scored Gallo on a ground ball giving the Riders a 9-0 lead after four innings.

Gallo drew a bases loaded walk scoring Skole and the Riders extended their lead 10-0 in the fifth. Thompson (4-3) had his second consecutive strong outing going six innings, giving up no runs on five hits striking out five in his fourth win of the season. In the top of the eighth, there was a 12 minute weather delay but when play resumed, the Cardinals got on the board with a Michael Ohlman solo home run off Victor Payano. Will Lamb worked a scoreless seventh and Payano finished off the Cardinals over the final two innings as the Riders won 10-1.

The Riders continue its six game home stand against Springfield on Wednesday at 11:05 a.m. with LHP Chad Bell (1-4) getting the nod for the Riders as RHP Thomas Lee (3-3) will start for the Cardinals. It's another Wiener Wednesday at Dr Pepper Ballpark so fans can enjoy $1 hotdogs all game long.
