May 4, 2016

TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers (14-11) notched their third straight victory, a 3-1 decision over the Salt Lake Bees (15-11), on Tuesday night at Cheney Stadium.

Tacoma starter Donn Roach (2-2) earned his second win of the year after holding the Bees to just one run on six hits through 6.0 innings of work. He issued no walks and fanned three over his longest outing of the season.

The Rainiers bullpen - represented by Jonathan Aro, David Rollins, and Blake Parker - combined to limit Salt Lake to just two hits over 3.0 scoreless frames to secure the win. Parker recorded two strikeouts in the ninth inning to earn his fifth save of the year.

Third baseman Ed Lucas cracked open a 0-0 tie in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run to left field, giving him three home runs in as many games. It marks the first time in his career he has sent out at least one home run in three straight contests.

Tacoma pushed the lead out to 2-0 in the bottom of the third when second baseman Tyler Smith swatted his first career Triple-A home run.

The Bees got on the board with their lone run in the top of the fourth inning - Jett Bandy tagged Roach for a solo home run that cleared the right field wall, cutting Tacoma's lead to 2-1.

Designated hitter Dario Pizzano led off the bottom of the eighth for the Rainiers with a triple to deep right-center field and was replaced by pinch runner Boog Powell. He came around to score an insurance run on a sacrifice fly by O'Malley one batter later, giving Tacoma the 3-1 advantage.

Game three between the Rainiers and Bees is set for tomorrow, Wednesday, April 4. Right-hander Joe Wieland (1-3, 17.31) will take the mound for Tacoma, while righty Kyle Kendrick (1-0, 6.94) is slated to start for Salt Lake. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. PT.
