Red Sox slugger Travis continues hot streak

Boston's No. 7 prospect blasts second home run of spring in victory
March 17, 2016

Don't blame Sam Travis if he doesn't want to see Spring Training come to an end.

The Red Sox's No. 7 prospect  continued his outstanding run of form by belting his second home run of the spring in Boston's 9-5 win over Baltimore on Thursday.

Travis clobbered a three-run shot off Vance Worley in the bottom of the second inning, nailing the batter's eye in center field. It was the second longball in less than a week for the University of Indiana product. In the fourth inning, Travis hit a single with the bases loaded to collect his fourth RBI of the game. The former second-round pick is hitting .591 (13-for-22) this spring.

Travis' high batting average does not come as a surprise to the organization. The 22-year-old excelled at the plate last year, hitting .307 with 32 doubles, six triples, and 78 RBIs between 66 games for Class A Advanced Salem and 65 games for Double-A Portland. Travis' breakout season earned him the Red Sox's Minor League Offensive Player of the Year award.

"His hands work so well as a hitter," Red Sox manager John Farrell said in a recent interview with the Boston Herald

Davis has always been regarded as a great hitter, but the question surrounding the Chicago native was whether or not his power would arrive. If this spring is any indication, it may not be far off.

Other notable performances: Red Sox No. 12 prospect Mauricio Dubon doubled in his first Spring Training appearance for Boston. Dubon is looking to become the first-ever native Honduran to make it to the Major Leagues. Box score »
