Drillers walk way to victory in game two

Pair of late bases-loaded walks hurt Riders in 3-1 loss to Tulsa
June 1, 2016

FRISCO, TEXAS (June 1, 2016) - The Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, issued a pair of bases-loaded walks in the seventh inning and fell to the Tulsa Drillers, 3-1, in game two of a doubleheader Wednesday at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh, both Willie Calhoun and Jacob Scavuzzo drew walks from reliever Joe Filomeno to break a 1-1 tie. The Drillers (27-24) had loaded the bases with a two-out rally against Filomeno and Riders starter Victor Payano (4-3), who allowed three earned runs in 6 2/3 innings of work.

After falling behind early on a second-inning home run from Tyler Ogle, the RoughRiders (30-21) tied the game, 1-1, on a RBI double off the bat of Lewis Brinson in the third inning.

The third frame was one of the few rough patches for Drillers starter Scott Barlow (3-2), who worked six innings, while allowing just three hits and a run. The righty walked one and struck out five to earn the victory. Caleb Dirks worked a scoreless seventh inning to pick up his second save of the season and send Frisco to its eighth consecutive defeat.

The two squads round out their three-game series Thursday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. Right-handed pitcher Sam Wolff (4-3, 5.12 ERA) is scheduled to throw against righty Trevor Oaks (5-1, 2.92 ERA). Fans can watch the action live on Fox Sports Southwest and MiLB.TV (subscription required), or listen for free on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App.

The RoughRiders continue a six-game homestand through Sunday at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The homestand includes Superhero Night on Saturday, June 4th, featuring the Jose Canseco Home Run Challenge after the game. Tickets for that game and the other games on the homestand are available now online at RidersBaseball.com, via email at [email protected], over the phone at (972) 731-9200, or in-person at the RoughRiders box office.
