Express Drop Second Straight Walkoff Decision

Sacramento 1B Ryan Lollis Gives River Cats 6-5 Win Over Round Rock
July 27, 2017

SACRAMENTO, California - For the second night in a row, the Sacramento River Cats (42-61) celebrated a walkoff win over the Round Rock Express (46-58). This time it was 1B Ryan Lollis notching an RBI single that scored DH Pablo Sandoval with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the River Cats a 6-5 win.

Express reliever RHP Ernesto Frieri (0-1, 2.08) suffered the loss after giving up the game-winning run on a total of two hits and a walk while recording just two outs in the ninth inning. Sacramento RHP Derek Law (1-1, 4.32) picked up the win despite surrendering a game-tying run on three hits in two innings of relief.

Round Rock starter RHP David Ledbetter permitted four runs on six hits in 5.1 innings. The righty walked six and struck out two in the no-decision. Sacramento jumped all over Ledbetter in the first. RF Jarrett Parker opened the game with a leadoff home run, his second in as many at-bats dating back to last night's walkoff blast. Sandoval manufactured a two-out walk before LF Chris Shaw stepped to the plate and blasted a two-run shot of his own that upped his team's lead to 3-0.

After a pair of scoreless frames, Round Rock plated a trio of runs in the fourth to level the contest at 3-3. RF Travis Snider and DH Will Middlebrooks collected back-to-back singles prior to a booming three-run homer off the bat of 1B Ronald Guzman .

The Express snatched a brief lead in the sixth inning. CF Drew Stubbs kickstarted the frame with a double. Snider then wasted no time, singling home Stubbs in the very next at-bat.

However, the River Cats responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead. Lollis singled before advancing to second on an Ali Castillo groundout. After Parker walked, SS Orlando Calixte grounded out to move both runners into scoring position. Jones then followed up with a two-run single to make it 5-4.

In the ninth, Middlebrooks worked a leadoff single but was erased at second base on a double play off the bat of Guzman. LF Ryan Rua then connected on an 0-2 pitch, lining the offering just over the fence in left-center field to even the contest at 5-5.

The resilient River Cats answered again in the bottom of the ninth inning. Sandoval led off with a single before Shaw followed up with a walk. CF Wynton Bernard then moved both runners 90 feet closer to home with a sacrifice bunt. After C Tim Federowicz popped out, Lollis sent a base hit up the middle that scored Sandoval from third to give the home side their second straight walkoff win.

Round Rock and Sacramento will meet again on Thursday night. Express RHP James Dykstra (1-4, 8.61) is scheduled to take the mound against River Cats LHP Andrew Suarez (3-4, 4.69). First pitch at Raley Field is set for 9:05 p.m. CDT.
