Stripers Sweep Scranton/Wilkes-Barre With 6-3 Win

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The Gwinnett Stripers completed a three-game sweep of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders Wednesday afternoon with a 6-3 victory at Coolray Field. 
It was the Gwinnett franchise's first sweep of Scranton/WB in 19 all-time regular-season series meetings dating back to 2009.

Scranton took a 1-0 lead in the first inning off Gwinnett starter Max Fried (W, 1-0), making his second Triple-A start of the season. With runners on first and second, Abiatal Avelino singled home Kyle Higashioka and moved Mike Ford to third. But Fried picked Avelino off first base, avoiding further damage.
The Stripers immediately responded in the bottom of the first inning, bringing eight batters to the plate. Ronald Acuña Jr. singled to lead off the frame and was brought home on a double off the top of the wall by Johan Camargo. After a Jaff Decker pop out, Carlos Franco singled home Camargo, Dustin Peterson doubled and Rio Ruiz grounded out to drive in the run, giving Gwinnett a 3-1 lead.
Leading 4-1 in the fourth, Camargo had a one-out single and was driven in by Franco for his second RBI of the day. Peterson followed with a double of his own to make it 6-1.
Fried lasted 5.1 innings surrendering five hits, two earned runs, two walks with four strikeouts on 87 pitches, earning his first career Triple-A win.
Miguel Socolovich, Chase Whitley and Rex Brothers combined to allow a run on two hits and three walks over the final 3.2 innings for Gwinnett.
Former Gwinnett pitcher David Hale (L, 0-1) yielded 12 hits and all six runs over 4.0 innings. Gwinnett tallied double-digit hits in all three games of the series.
Camargo finished the series 7-for-14 with four RBIs, while Ruiz was 6-for-12 with four RBIs and a run scored.
With Fried's performance Wednesday, Gwinnett starters (Fried, Kolby Allard, Mike Soroka and Matt Wisler) completed the season-opening six-game homestand having allowed only 11 earned runs in 34.1 innings (2.90 ERA) while striking out 38 batters.
After splitting the six-game homestand (3-3, 5-6 overall), Gwinnett will head on the road for three games apiece in Pawtucket and Rochester. The first game from Pawtucket will be Friday at 7:05 p.m. Wisler (0-1, 2.25) gets the ball for the Stripers, while the PawSox will go with southpaw Dedgar Jimenez (1-0, 3.00).
