MEMPHIS -- Aaron Wilkerson and the bullpen led San Antonio to it's league-leading seventh shutout of the season Saturday night, as the Missions blanked the Memphis Redbirds, 4-0, in the series opener.
Wilkerson (3-0) fanned eight across 5 2/3 innings of work to help the Missions shutout Memphis for the second straight time in the head-to-head series. San Antonio also shutout the 'Birds this past Monday at Wolff Stadium by the same score.
Tyler Saladino clubbed his 10th homerun of the year and drove in three runs, while Jake Hager provided the final tally with a homerun in the seventh inning. It was Hager's first homerun in exactly a month.
Saladino's performance continued a torrid stretch at the plate for the veteran. Since May 14 he's hitting .432-3-16 with a 1.365 OPS. He's tormented Memphis pitching this season by swatting five homers and six doubles while driving in 16 runs in 10 games.
The 'Birds mounted an eighth inning threat after Angel Perdomo loaded the bases on walks with one out.
Jay Jackson took over on the hill and struck out Adolis García, who leads the Redbirds in homers and RBI. Jackson then fanned Drew Robinson swinging to extinguish the rally.
San Antonio remains a half game behind first place Round Rock, which won its series opener in Nashville.
