JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 19, 2018) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, outlasted the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 6-5 in 12 innings Saturday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
With the game tied 4-4 in the top of the 12th, Zach Gibbons came through with a two-run triple off Jose Pena (0-1) to put the BayBears (22-20) in front for good. Samil De Los Santos worked around a Brian Schales RBI single in the bottom of the frame to preserve the lead and earn his first save.
Jeremy Rhoades (4-0) saw his scoreless streak snapped after 20 1/3 straight innings. However, he still has not allowed an earned run since April 11 at Jacksonville, spanning 21 1/3 innings.
Alex Klonowski recorded a quality start in his first outing of the season with Mobile. He gave up two runs on three hits in six innings pitched. Klonowski retired 15 straight batters from the first to the sixth.
Robert Dugger gave up three runs, one earned, on four hits in his Double-A debut for Jacksonville (17-26). However, he issued five walks, and the BayBears drew a total of 11 in the game.
The BayBears continue the six-game road series against Jacksonville Sunday at 2:05 p.m. CDT. Angels No. 11 prospect Jose Suarez (1-1, 3.65 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Cody Poteet (2-3, 4.83 ERA) for the Jumbo Shrimp.
