After taking the first two games of the three-game series, the Intimidators (41-29) were held to just three hits Saturday night at Perdue Stadium, leading to a 3-0 Delmarva (36-34) victory in the series finale.
The Shorebirds jumped on Kannapolis starter, Yosmer Solorzano (L, 1-4) in the first inning, as Zach Jarrett doubled on a ground ball into left field, followed by a Trevor Craport single up the middle, giving the Shorebirds a quick 1-0 advantage.
In the second, Delmarva used a Will Robertson single to lead off the inning and a couple Kannapolis miscues to reach third, scoring four pitches later on a Max Hogan single to right field, putting the Shorebirds up 2-0. One batter later, Kirvin Moesquit doubled on a fly ball down the left field line, scoring Hogan for the three-run lead.
After a couple quick inning for both Solorzano and Brenan Hanifee (W, 5-2), the Shorebirds found themselves in the scoring column once again, as Mason McCoy singled on a ground ball to right field with one out. After a groundout to off the bat of Jarrett that sent McCoy to second, Craport singled on a ground ball to right field, scoring McCoy for the fourth Delmarva run.
LHP Drew Harrington received his first action in a Kannapolis uniform after the exit of Solorzano, throwing 2.1 innings of one-hit ball, striking out two batters along the way. The Intimidators did not threaten much with only three hits on the night, but did have their best opportunity in the eighth. With two outs, Carlos Perez singled to right field, followed by a Nolan Brown double to left field for his ninth two-bagger of the season. With Luis Curbelo at the dish, the Intimidators shortstop struck out to end the threat.
Kannapolis had no answer for Hanifee all night long, as the Shorebirds hurler struck out four batters through 8.0 innings of work, throwing 86 pitches.
The Intimidators will head back to North Carolina to take on the Greensboro Grasshoppers for a three-game slate starting Sunday at 4:00 p.m., as Kannapolis' Zach Lewis (1-2, 3.74 ERA) will battle against Ryan Lillie (6-1, 2.12 ERA).
