With the series on the line, the Intimidators scored two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh inning on nine hits to beat Lakewood 6-2, jumping back up to .500 (9-9) in the second half in the South Atlantic League.
Jhailyn Ortiz got the BlueClaws (10-8) on the board in the second inning against Yosmer Solorzano, smacking the first pitch of his at-bat over the fence in left field, giving Lakewood a 1-0 lead.
After getting out of jams in the second and third innings with runners stranded at third, the BlueClaws stopped the Solorzano trend, scoring the runner at third base with a swinging bunt to J.J. Muno at third, as the runner beat out the wild throw to first to keep the inning alive.
After the run scampered in for Lakewood, Luis Ledo (W, 4-1) got the call out of the bullpen from manager Justin Jirschele, capping the 4.2
Down 2-0 heading into the sixth inning, Justin Yurchak led off the frame with a single up the middle against Ismael Cabrera, as J.J. Muno skipped a single through the right side to put runners at first and second for Nolan Brown. Seeing just four pitches, showing bunt on all four, Brown walked to load the bases for Johan Cruz. After a Cruz flyout into left field, Craig Dedelow smacked a bases-clearing double off the wall in right field, as Brown scored just a few feet behind Muno after getting a great read on the ball, giving the I's a 3-2 lead.
The Intimidators kept the scoring going in the seventh inning, as Carlos Perez led off the inning with a double off the wall in left, followed by a Yurchak walk. After a swing and a miss from J.J. Muno for a strikeout, catcher Colby Fitch couldn't hang on to the high heater as it scooted to the backstop, allowing Perez to come in for the fourth run of the ball game.
One batter later and with two on and one out, Brown hit a single through the left side, scoring Yurchak and pushing the Kannapolis lead to three runs, 5-2. Next up, Cruz singled on a groundball up the middle that scored Brown from second, who was going on the pitch, putting the Intimidators up 6-2.
Aron McRee and Joe Mockbee (S, 1) did not allow a hit through the last two innings against the BlueClaws, as Mockbee struck out Nick Maton to end the game with bases loaded after two walks and an error.
Kannapolis will have Tuesday off before heading to Greensboro for a three-game away series starting on Wednesday.
