STOCKTON, Calif.- The Stockton Ports, in conjunction with the Oakland Athletics, announce that the team will be managed by Webster "Webby" Garrison in 2019. Joining Garrison are Hitting Coach Brian McArn, Pitching Coach Chris Smith, Coach Javier Godard, Athletic Trainer Shane Zdebiak, and Strength and Conditioning Coach Matt Mosiman.
Webster Garrison makes his return to Stockton after managing the Beloit Snappers in 2018. He previously managed the Ports from 2011 to 2013 and was named "Banner Island Ballpark All-Time Manager" in 2015. Garrison began his coaching career in 1999 with Double-A Midland and this year will be his 21st  season as a coach or manager within the A's organization. Prior to coaching, he was a second-round draft pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in 1983 and made his Major League debut with the A's in 1996.
"We are excited to have Webby back to manage the Ports. We had a great three year run with him at the helm before, and we look forward to another season working with him and his staff," said President Pat Filippone. "Webby has always been a fan favorite and understands and supports our efforts to involve our team in the Stockton community as much as possible. We would also like to thank Rick Magnante for his four years in Stockton and wish him well with his new position in Vermont."
In addition to Garrison is Brian McArn, who was a coach with the Ports last season and from 2011-2012 and 2014-2015 as well. This baseball season will be McArn's 22nd overall as a hitting coach in the Athletics' system. Prior to joining the A's organization, McArn served as the hitting coach for the Single-A Vermont Expos in the New York-Penn League and was an assistant coach at American River Junior College in Sacramento.
Pitching Coach Chris Smith will enter his first season as a coach, but is no stranger to the Athletics organization. Originally drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 2002, Smith spent time in the Brewers, Mariners, and Padres organizations before signing a Minor League contract that landed him with the A's in 2015. Smith was added to the A's 40-man roster in 2016 and pitched in Oakland during the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
Javier Godard will serve his first season as a coach this coming year after having played in Vermont for the Lake Monsters the last two seasons. The Venezuelan native was signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2013.
