Demeritte, Santiago earn weekly honors

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves have announced their Farm Bureau Player & Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, May 20. Mississippi Braves outfielder, Travis Demeritte and right-handed pitcher, Andres Santiago have been selected for the weekly awards.

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves have announced their Farm Bureau Player & Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, May 20. Mississippi Braves outfielder, Travis Demeritte and right-handed pitcher, Andres Santiago have been selected for the weekly awards.

Demeritte, the 23-year old outfielder, is currently batting .244 (32-for-131) on the season. Demeritte finished the week with a .348 AVG (8-for-23), 6 runs scored, two home runs, four runs batted in, and three walks. In 40 games played with the Mississippi Braves thus far in 2018, Demeritte has recorded 17 runs scored, seven doubles, two triples, four home runs, 17 runs batted in, 55 total bases and two stolen bases. On the season, the right-handed hitting Demeritte boasts a .344 on-base percentage, a .420 slugging percentage and a .764 on-base slugging percentage. The Statham, GA native was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the first round (30th overall) of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Winder Barrow High School (Winder, GA). The former first round draft pick was acquired by the Atlanta Braves from the Texas Rangers on July 27, 2016 in exchange for LHP Dario Álvarez and RHP Lucas Harrell.
Santiago, the 28-year old right-handed pitcher is 2-0 on the year with a 4.12 ERA. For the week ending Sunday, May 20, Santiago recorded a win/loss record of 2-0, becoming the only M-Braves pitcher to earn back-to-back wins this season. The right-hander allowed 16 hits, eight earned runs, issued one walk and struck out seven in 11.2 innings pitched over the course of two games (May 15 & 20). In four games played with the Mississippi Braves in 2018, the right-hander has earned three starts, allowed 23 hits, nine runs, nine earned runs, three home runs, issued three walks, and struck out 13 in 19.2 innings pitched. A native of Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, Santiago was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 16th round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft. Santiago was acquired by the Atlanta Braves as a minor-league free agent on March 14, 2017.
