AKRON, Ohio – The Richmond Flying Squirrels lost to the Akron RubberDucks, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon on a walk-off single by Petey Halpin to close the road series at Canal Park.

The Flying Squirrels (12-15) lost five-of-six in the series against the division-leading RubberDucks (18-9).

After a leadoff single and a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the ninth, Halpin hit a game-winning single to right against Tyler Myrick (Loss, 0-3) to hand the RubberDucks their 11th win in their last 12 games.

The game was delayed by rain for 97 minutes following the conclusion of the first inning, ending the outing for Richmond starter Ryan Murphy. Wil Jensen took over for him in the second and pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, lowering his season ERA to 0.93, which is the best in the Eastern League among pitchers who have thrown at least 15 innings this year.

The RubberDucks took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning. Kahlil Watson led off with a triple and came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Alexfri Planez.

The Flying Squirrels tied the game, 1-1, in the top of the eighth with a solo home run by Luis Toribio. It was the only run allowed over seven relief innings by Akron pitcher Tommy Mace and the second homer this year for Toribio.

Bradley Hanner (Win, 2-1) took over for Akron in the top of the ninth and worked around a one-out walk for a scoreless frame.

The Flying Squirrels continue the road trip with the first of six against the Erie SeaWolves on Tuesday night to begin a rematch of the last two years’ Southwest Division Series. Right-hander Matt Frisbee (0-3, 8.47) will start on the mound for the Flying Squirrels. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. at UPMC Park.

Following the two-week road trip, the Flying Squirrels return to The Diamond May 14-19 to face the Reading Fightin Phils. Tickets are on sale online at SquirrelsBaseball.com/Tickets, by phone at 804-359-3866 (FUNN) or in person at the Flying Squirrels ticket office.
